October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Month

As many as 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. Yet rarely is that difficult loss acknowledged socially, and many women and couples mourn the loss of their child alone, without the support that would ease their grief.

Further, couples who lose a child late in pregnancy or in the days around the birth often experience that most difficult death in isolation as well. Friends and family don’t know what to say, and are often afraid that if the child is mentioned, it might make the parents’ grief that much more painful.

Here at the Church of Saint Mary, we wish to open that dialogue. We hope to honor the experience of mothers and fathers as they gather with other couples to share their personal stories, or maybe just listen to one another in a prayerful and confidential setting. We will end the evening with a prayer service offered by Fr. Stuart in the Chapel.
