High School Youth Ministry Summer Calendar

The Summer of Field trips is about to begin! All incoming freshmen through outgoing seniors are invited to join high school youth ministry for our summer events! We will take mini pilgrimages to some of the historic and beautiful churches in our diocese, enjoy a lunch together, and visit some exciting spots in town.

June 3: We kick off our summer with a journey to Pawhuska, OK. First, we’ll eat lunch at Buffalo Joe’s. After lunch, we will visit the live buffalo in the Tallgrass Prairie Reserve. We will finish the day with Mass at historic Immaculate Conception Parish. The stained glass windows are a sight to behold; they survived being buried in sand during World War I to protect them from being destroyed by the Germans. These windows also depict the ancestors of the Osage people who built the church, something the parishioners got special permission from the Pope to do.

June 22: We’ll stay closer to home for this field trip and meet at Holy Family Cathedral for noon Mass. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy after Mass before we are treated to a tour of the mother church of our diocese. Learn all about the history of Catholicism in Tulsa and the design of the Cathedral itself.

July 6: Next we’ll take a trip to Stillwater, OK for the noon Mass at St. Francis Xavier parish. After Mass, Father Brian O’Brien will give us a tour of the new church which some call the Cathedral of Stillwater. After the tour, we will stop for lunch at Eskimo Joe’s on the way home.

July 16-17: We are excited to offer a retreat at our own parish this summer. The retreat is called Verso L’alto, a phrase taken from Bl. Pierre Giorgio Frassati that means “to new heights.” Like the title implies, this retreat experience will take your spiritual life to new heights through Sacraments, dynamic talks, and fellowship with friends and Jesus.

July 28: On the feast of Bl. Stanley Rother, we will travel to his home town and visit the parish he grew up in. We will also have the opportunity to visit his burial site. We will meet for 9am Mass at our Church and then travel to Okarche, OK. Before the tour, we will stop at the famous Eischen’s Chicken for lunch.

August 3: Before school is back in session, we will have time for one more trip. We will visit the monks at Clear Creek Abbey. First, we will begin the day by going to their 10am high Mass. The Mass will be in Latin, but we will have excellent guidebooks to help you understand the liturgy. This is a great opportunity to discover some of the beautiful Tradition of the Church that many of us don’t experience on a regular basis. After Mass, we will hear a talk from the guest master who will tell us about life at the Abbey. Bring a sack lunch and a blanket, because after the talk, we will get to have a picnic on the Abbey grounds.
