Year of Prayer: Prayers of Praise and Thanksgiving in the Bible

by Mary Martinovich

Prayers of praise and thanksgiving to the Lord are found throughout Old and New Testament scripture. Balancing our daily and prayer lives during this season is always difficult, but adding the stresses and continuing unknowns of this year can make it overwhelming. We must always praise and thank God in every prayer, even when facing trials.

The following scripture passages are a few examples of prayers of praise and thanksgiving throughout scripture. Take a moment to pray with these verses, and reflect on all the ways the Lord has blessed you.

Psalm 107:1
Psalm 28: 6-9
Isaiah 12:4
1 Chronicles 29: 10-13
Luke 1: 46-55 The Magnificat
1 Phillipians 4: 6-7
1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18
Collosians 3: 16-17
2 Corinthians 9: 11-12

Use this quiet time to focus on replenishing your reservoir to the brim, then simply say “I trust in you, Lord, and thank you.”

“The best way to show my gratitude to God is to accept everything, even my problems, with joy.”—St. Theresa of Calcutta
