Linen Ladies do Laundry for the Lord!
Each week dedicated women pick up the small altar lines, wash and iron them, and return them to the sanctuaries for use the next week.
There are no large altar cloths to do. The purificators, used by the priest and Eucharistic ministers for cleaning the chalice, are approximately 11" X 18" and do not need to be starched. The corporals, which go on the altar in the area where the Consecration takes place, are typically 18" to 24" square, and are starched. They are in the laundry infrequently. The finger towels, used by the priest for washing his hands during Mass, are terry cloth and need only to be washed and folded. Altar boy cassocks are also checked for soil, and laundered if needed. They are permanent press and do not need to be ironed.
Schedules are sent out for the year, so there is ample time to change or trade an assigned date if necessary. At present, there are enough volunteers that each has to do it only 2 or 3 times a year. Obviously, the more volunteers, the fewer times each has the assignment. If you feel you can spare a few hours once or twice a year to help in this ministry, please call Marie Tobin 742-1107 for details.
